KING OF PRUSSIA

PROUDLY SERVING KING OF PRUSSIA, PA

sign of The Plaza in King of Prussia
King of Prussia is a “census-designated place” within Upper Merion Township in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. It sits 20 miles to the northwest of Philadelphia and has a population of almost 20,000 people.

King of Prussia took its name from a popular inn established in the late 1700s called the “King of Prussia Inn.” You can still find the original Inn, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975, in King of Prussia on Bill Smith Blvd.

Prior to 1960, King of Prussia was known as being a stop for General George Washington and his troops in the winter of 1777-1778. The 1960s saw rapid economic growth and development when developers began building large retail and business spaces around the four major highways that converge in King of Prussia: The Schuylkill Expressway, the Pennsylvania Turnpike, US Route 422 and US Route 202. King of Prussia has since become an important hub for major national corporations and retail.

King of Prussia is home to the largest mall in the United States (in terms of leasable space), the King of Prussia Mall. With over 400 stores, 9 anchor stores and over 40 restaurants, many people living in King of Prussia and the surrounding area work at the mall and the grocery stores, hotels and business parks that have been built in the surrounding area. King of Prussia also hosts several large companies. The largest employers in the region are GlaxoSmithKline, Lockheed Martin, Valley Forge Colonial, LTD, and the US Liability Insurance Company. Other major employers include the Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region I, Philadelphia Media Newspapers, Inc., Radial, Arkema and BNY Mellon Investment Servicing. In total, over 60,000 people are employed in King of Prussia, which is more than three times the total population.

King of Prussia is also home to several attractions. The King of Prussia Town Center, part of the Village at Valley Forge, is home to several big-box retailers, a Wegmans, a town square and a downtown area with dining and retail establishments. King of Prussia also hosts the Valley Forge Casino Resort, Valley Forge National Historic Park and the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company 9/11 Memorial.
