Since we last wrote about the growing
number of lawsuits involving the popular weed killer “Roundup”
and its link to cancer in humans, the number of lawsuits have skyrocketed. A recent article
noted there are more than
11,000 lawsuits currently pending throughout the United States.
At the Law Office of Alvin F. de Levie
& Associates, our team of experienced
personal injury attorneys has a history of representing victims who have developed
cancer and other illnesses as a result of exposure to products throughout Pennsylvania.
The lawsuits revolve around the main
ingredient in “Roundup,” known as glyphosate, an
herbicide used to kill and control weeds and other unwanted plants. Glysophate exposure has been linked to an
increased risk of developing non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and other cancers. Despite this risk, Roundup has been promoted
as safe and has been used heavily for decades throughout the United States. It is sprayed on large crops of corn and
soybeans and is also a popular consumer product sprayed onto sidewalks and
other areas near homes, businesses and schools.
While proponents of the product have
fiercely opposed any link to cancer, juries are finally seeing the truth. For example, in a recent case in California,
a jury awarded $80 Million in damages to a man who developed non-Hodgkins Lymphoma
after years of exposure to Roundup.
Another jury in California awarded $289 Million to a former school
groundskeeper who also developed non-Hodgkins Lymphoma after using the product
at work for years.
We are monitoring these developments
carefully. As Roundup has been used for
decades virtually everywhere, we can only expect the number of lawsuits and
verdicts to continue now that juries are recognizing Roundup’s carcinogenic
effects.
