According
to a disturbing article published recently on PennLive.com, an investigation by Pennsylvania Senators
Pat Toomey and Bob Casey revealed sixteen Pennsylvania nursing homes with a
history of providing substandard care to their clients. These poor-performing nursing homes were
located throughout the Commonwealth in Philadelphia, Westmoreland, Allegheny,
Delaware, Cumberland, Beaver, Lackawanna, Somerset, Montgomery, Dauphin,
Monroe, and Franklin Counties.

The
PennLive article noted that all sixteen Pennsylvania nursing homes identified
by Senators Toomey and Casey are on a federal list of facilities maintained by
the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The list identifies nursing homes
throughout the country that are either candidates for increased federal
oversight or that are already subject to increased federal oversight.
The nursing
homes identified in the list included The Grove at Latrobe in Latrobe,
Pennsylvania, Willow Terrace Nursing Home in Philadelphia, Corner View Nursing
and Rehabilitation Center in Pittsburgh, Mountain View Care and Rehbilitation
Center in Scranton, and The Gardens at Blue Ridge in Harrisburg. The full list of nursing homes, including the
sixteen located in Pennsylvania, can be found here.
We have previously written about the dangers presented to those living in substandard nursing homes. Poor care, neglect, medical malpractice and
abuse in nursing homes can cause serious injuries, including broken bones,
brain damage, pressure sores, debilitating infections, and even death.
